Dining in the Kingdom of God – a Lent “Zoom” Bible Study
Wednesdays: March 16, 23, 30 April 6, 13 & 20 from 7:00 – 8:30 pm
The Lectionary Study Group (Tuesday mornings at SJC) will be offering a special online book study for Lent/Easter: Dining in the Kingdom of God – the Origins of the Eucharist in the Gospel of Luke by Fr. Eugene LaVerdiere, SSS.
Fr. LaVerdiere was a highly respected New Testament scholar. The author of many books, he taught at the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago and Mundelein Seminary. The book is most appropriate this season: our Sunday Lectionary centers on the Gospel of Luke, the U.S. bishops are currently working on a statement on the Eucharist and one of the foci of the Vatican’s Synod is to reflect on what it truly means to be in communion.
“With this book you will come to a deeper understanding of the eucharist in the Gospel of Luke, a story of meals and journeys. It highlights the unique Lukan tradition of noon meals, Sabbath dinners, banquets and even of meeting and dining with a stranger on the road to Emmaus. Join the trip; sit at the table; dine in the Kingdom.” – Liturgy Training Publications
We have conducted similar biblical series during Advent and Lent of 2021. The book is readily available through Amazon in paperback from $15.99 - $3.99.
Geoffrey Schnieder will once again facilitate the discussion. If you are interested in joining this series please contact our Zoom host Tom Anderson at 1799tca@gmail.com to set you up. If you have any questions regarding the book or sessions please contact Geoff Schnieder at 412.848.8329 (mobile) or email: geoff.schnieder@gmail.com
