Psalm 107 instructs us “Give thanks to the Lord for He is good; His mercy endures forever.” This passage reminds us of one of the essential attitudes for being a follower of Jesus - gratitude. As our country this Thursday celebrates a national day of Thanksgiving, we too gather as a parish family to give thanks to God for our lives and for the gift of faith. In honor of the Thanksgiving holiday, we will celebrate a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Thanksgiving at St. Thomas More Church. We will also be collecting canned goods for the St. Winifred Food Pantry here in the South Hills for those who are in need. We look forward to having you here to celebrate faith, family, and the blessings we have received from God. On behalf of all the clergy and staff of Resurrection, we are thankful for all of you, and for all that you do for this parish! Thank you for demonstrating so much faith and service every day!
Christ the King Celebration: This 34th Sunday in Ordinary Time is also known as the Solemnity of Christ the King. It is a time to honor the Lord Jesus as the Lord and Master of all of creation and all of time. The original feast was established in 1925 by Pope Pius XI to combat a growing secularism and apathy to religion. To celebrate this Solemnity, Resurrection Parish will have adoration of the Blessed Sacrament at St. John Capistran Church following the 11:00 a.m. Mass today, November 24th until 5:00 p.m. At 5:00 p.m., there will be closing benediction and vespers (evening prayer) in the Church. All are most welcome to attend and honor Jesus our King.
Precious Blood: Next Sunday begins the season of Advent, as we prepare for the coming of Christ at Christmas and at the end of time. After a long hiatus, we are glad to reinstitute the Precious Blood, which will be available at all Sunday liturgies beginning this first Sunday of Advent. The availability of the Precious Blood allows a fuller expression of Eucharistic worship. Although receiving either the Body or Blood of Christ is equivalent to receiving the other, it is a blessing to be able to have both species available for worship. Thank you for your patience during the past several years, and thank you to our Eucharistic ministers who are so diligent, reverent, and dedicated in their service.
Advent: The next four weeks present us with a time of preparation for Christ in our lives and hearts. While many people use this time to Christmas shop, as Catholics we use this time for an increase in prayer, good works, and spiritual formation. Please be sure to check the bulletin and website for additional Confession and faith-enrichment opportunities. This is a great chance to make ready the way for Christ our King! God Bless and Keep You, Fr. Mike
