· Christ is the King!… The liturgical year ends today with the feast of Christ the King. In our Gospel, we are reminded that Christ is no ordinary king. In fact, this humble king chose to die on the cross for us. Christ’s kingdom is not of this world. May we approach our Lord with the same sense of reverence and awe as the “good criminal” on the cross next to Jesus, who prayed: “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” Consider spending some extra time before the Eucharist today, which will be exposed after the 11:00 a.m. Mass at St. John Capistran until 5:00 p.m. when Evening Prayer and Benediction will occur.
• Thanksgiving Day… is this Thursday, November 24. Consider coming to Mass on Thanksgiving morning, which will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. at St. John Capistran and at 10:00 a.m. at St. Thomas More. The very word “eucharist” means “thanksgiving.” May we never forget to thank God for our many blessings.
• Advent… starts next weekend! Advent is a special time to get ready for Christ’s coming, to “prepare the way of the Lord.” It is such a beautiful season, yet can get lost in the midst of the busyness of our lives as we prepare for Christmas. Try to not celebrate Christmas until Christmas! And remember that the Christmas season this year lasts until January 9, so consider keeping your Christmas decorations up until then!
