• “Do unto others…” In today’s Gospel, Jesus proclaims what is sometimes called the Golden Rule: “Do unto others as you would have them do to you.” Unfortunately, sometimes people change this to “Do unto others what they do unto you!” The spirit of retaliation is not the Christian message. In today’s First Reading, David had the opportunity to retaliate against his enemy, Saul. But David did not harm him. In today’s Gospel, Jesus asks us to “love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.” In daily life, these things aren’t always easy! Let’s try to be more loving, especially when that’s difficult to do.
• We’re grateful… to all of our liturgical ministers who faithfully serve our parish community each weekend at Mass. At our Masses this weekend, we recognize and commission those who are Proclaimers of God’s Word (Lectors) and our Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (Eucharistic Ministers). We thank these folks for their service, as we join together in prayer to support them in their ministry.
• Please… keep in your prayer our second graders who will receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time this week. May they always remain close to Jesus, and know his mercy and love.
