For Music Directors and those involved in the music ministry here at Resurrection Parish, we are in one of the two “high gear” periods of our liturgical season. The number of hours that we are working to ensure our liturgies are sacred and festive. If you see a musician this season, please wish them well on all of their hard work! They deserve it! The parish has a lot of activities that are not only for worship but also for something fun. Take a few moments to read below of some of the upcoming notes: Advent Caroling at St. John Capistran: Saturday, December 14, 2024, 4:00 p.m. One of the yearly traditions we can do as a parish is get together, dress warm, and sing Christmas Carols outside of the church to those waiting in the McMillan Road holiday traffic. Many people appreciate this activity, and this is something to bring your entire family of all ages to! The King’s Singers lead the event, and they will also lead the 5:00 p.m. Mass that evening. Following Mass, we will have cookies and hot chocolate in Capistran Hall. Special Christmas Mass Schedule: Please note that all liturgies will have a cantor and organist present. The liturgies listed below contain extra musicians. à4:00 p.m. Christmas Eve The King’s Singers and Joyful Noise Ringers à5:00 p.m. Christmas Eve Living Spirit Choir à6:30 p.m. Christmas Eve Trumpet and Organ à9:00 p.m. Christmas Eve Trumpet and Organ à12:00 a.m. Midnight Mass Canticle Choir and Brass à9:30 a.m. Christmas Day Flute, Trumpet Festival of Lessons and Carols: Friday, January 3, 2025, 7:30 p.m., St. John Capistran As we kick off the weekend of the Epiphany, our choirs combine for our yearly service of the Festival of Scripture and Song. This is not a concert, but it is a service mixed with proclaimed scripture and sacred song of the season. Every year, the event brings happiness and cheer to our parish family as our choirs work hard for the holiday season. Friends of Music: Many people approach me and ask how they can give to the “Friends of Music” that help support extra musical happenings in the parish. Due to generous benefactors this year, we can have brass at our Midnight Mass that used to come from our parish music budget in prior years. Because of your friendship and your gifts, we can take our music ministry to the next level. You can email Daniel Kovacic at [email protected] to see how you can help in our ongoing mission. Final Thoughts: As we continue our Advent journey, let us remember to take a breath and enjoy the sacred season around us. It is a time where we think about many memories of our childhood and relive many traditions. Music connects us in prayer. Thank you to everyone who weekly picks up your hymnal and prays twice. If you have not picked up a hymnal, this is an enjoyable way to begin this liturgical season. Let us rejoice!
