Hopefully you had an opportunity to read Bishop Zubik’s article about the upcoming elections and how he has asked the clergy not to preach about either party, but rather encourage the Faithful to pray to make the best decision after a period of discernment, especially reflecting upon Catholic social teachings. This message also extends to the Faithful, and in particular to those who are attending Mass. Most people are coming to church for prayer, and to spend time with the Lord. When someone wears clothing, masks, jewelry or other apparel that endorses one party or the other, it becomes distracting and a point of contention. Please refrain from wearing political attire. This is a good time to read St. Paul’s 1st letter to the Corinthians, chapter 3, verses 1-9. We belong to the Lord and should not be distracted by others. Additionally, please know that the parish, nor the Diocese of Pittsburgh, supports the literature that is being placed on the cars during Mass. If you see people doing this, please call the police.
