The Second Vatican Council reminds us in Lumen Gentium that “the Eucharist is the source and summit of the Christian life.” The Eucharist is so important to us as Catholics, because it is the lasting presence of Jesus Christ with us. It is truly what unites us, and what sustains and nourishes our souls. As a Church, we have been emphasizing the Eucharist over the course of the past year during the National Eucharistic Revival. As a culmination to this, Resurrection Parish is pleased to sponsor a Eucharistic Congress here on Saturday, November 23rd. The point of the Congress to increase knowledge, appreciation, and love for the Eucharist as the center of our faith lives. The day will feature a keynote address on the Eucharist from Fr. Boniface Hicks, a Benedictine monk of St. Vincent Archabbey, as well as informative and spiritual reflections with our own parishioners Dr. Jim Swindal and Dr. Theresa Farnan. The day will also include Mass, adoration, and lectio divina (spiritual reading) designed to enhance and deepen our Eucharistic lives. If you have not already registered for the event, please visit our website to do so; we would love to have you there. If you are unable to attend, please pray for the success of the event and that all of us can grow in our love for Christ present in the Blessed Sacrament.
Happy Anniversary: Next Sunday, November 24th marks the 10th anniversary of the Lamb of God chapel. The celebration of this event will occur following the 4:00 p.m. Vigil Mass on Saturday with a reception in the Family Life Center and presentation by our native son, Fr. Joe Freedy, about the importance of adoration to maintain and enrich a life of faith. All are welcome. Thank you for all that you have done to keep our chapel going, and to sustain the spiritual life of the parish!
Preparing for Advent in Your Home: Advent, the time for preparing for Christ’s birth and second coming, is quickly approaching. To help you and your family get ready, we are sponsoring a day for families to make their own Advent Wreath or Jesse Tree Ornaments on Sunday, November 24th at 12:30 p.m. in the Family Life Center. The Jesse Tree features different titles of the Lord from the Old Testament, often referred to as the “O Antiphons,” since these titles are used in evening prayer during the late stages of Advent. Please see this bulletin or our website for more details and to sign-up.
