Lent is a journey… from the old to the new. In our first reading today, God called Abram (later renamed Abraham) to leave his homeland, and journey to an unknown land. This must have been difficult for Abram, but he did as the Lord asked. In so doing, God promised him many blessings. His life was transformed because of his faith. In the Gospel today, the transfiguration of Jesus reminds us that we, too will be transformed if we have faith. May our journey continue!
We congratulate… our second graders who began their journey of reconciliation this past week as they received this sacrament for the first time. May they always remain close to Jesus.
Prayer… Lent is a time to be more attentive to the role of prayer in our lives. Consider coming to our Holy Hour during the Wednesdays of Lent at St. John Capistran church from 6:00-7:00 p.m. as we gather with Jesus in the Eucharist. During this time, we will pray the Church’s “official” Evening Prayer, known as the Liturgy of the Hours, as well as having time for quiet prayer.
Adult Lenten Series… The Gospel readings for the third, fourth, and fifth Sundays of Lent this year are especially meaningful. I will be leading a three-week Scripture study of these Gospels and how they relate to our lives on Wednesdays March 8, 15, and 22 from 7:00-8:15 p.m. at St. John Capistran Church in the church hall. We will spend time reading and reflecting on these Gospels, and then discuss how they relate to our lives. There is no cost, but please consider registering by calling or emailing the Parish Office so we can have adequate materials available for attendees.
