Pope Benedict XVI once said, “The world offers you comfort, but you were not meant for comfort. You were meant for greatness.” The readings on this 26th Sunday of Ordinary Time remind us that we are not meant simply to be comfortable and complacent. Our objective needs to be more than accumulating possessions, receiving accolades or exalting ourselves. Instead, our life is meant to be one of ministry and sacrifice to further the will of God. Our charge every day is to show God’s love, compassion and care for those around us. We must seek the face of Christ in every person we encounter, especially the most difficult ones, and be willing to swallow our pride. Once we are able in great humility to accept our call and mission to serve, then we begin to understand what it takes to enter the Kingdom of God.
Congratulations to Russ White as he will be ordained to the Order of the Diaconate on Saturday, October 1st at St. Paul Cathedral at 9:30am. The Diaconate is a ministry of service
conformed to Christ who came not to be served but to serve. Deacons are especially of service to the bishop as they minister to the needs of the Church through attention to the Word of God and service. The ordination will be livestreamed through the Diocesan website for those who would like to watch. We are proud of you Russ! Thank you for answering the call to serve.
Retreat: The 8th graders at Ave Maria Academy will be going on retreat this Thursday, September 29th to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Camp. Please pray for these students as they further their relationship with Christ and grow in friendship with one another.
