All life is a gift and each child is the manifestation of promise.
Most of us grew up in a neighborhood of a shared front yard. Children, not seeing boundaries, playing and moving freely, with tag-team parenting. Everyone knew the rules, even though they were never written down, they were shared values. Each parent or neighbor kept watch as this fluid energy moved through their purview, with the responsibility to provide protection and officiate over what they saw. All children were known by their names and shared only one concern, hearing their name with some combination of, “…do you want me to call your Mother?”
Parents are a child’s first teacher, instilling a proper foundation of early skills and values. Today’s parents face a new, faceless stranger in their shared neighborhood, devices and software, which now may not even be backstopped by a human, targeting our children’s insecurities and trusting innocence, with only a respite of unsocial media.
For centuries Catholic Education has been an incubator for young minds, sharing the values of those who entrust their children with us. We provide a reassuring sanctuary, while challenging our children both intellectually and spiritually, that they may have a foundation to better face current and future challenges, so that they may embrace a future which reflects their promise.
