The gospel proclaimed today invites us to reflect on our blessings and treasures. We reverently celebrate and receive the Eucharist that we may become the Body of Christ in and for our world. We value the sacraments as they serve to connect us with the living God through the gift of His grace. We celebrate and honor our Saints, both on and off the calendar, and the gift of their intercession. We honor and uphold the sanctity of all human life and the gift of family. We fight for the rights of all people to live a fully human and dignified life with decent housing, work conditions and health care. We are a bold and vibrant community of faith. We are blessed and as a Church are a blessing to the world.
The Gospel today invites us to reflect on what we treasure to be rich in the sight of God. In the Gospel of Luke, the evangelist relates that “Mary treasured all these things in her heart.” The Blessed Mother is our model for us to follow in saying “yes” to God with our entire being. Like her, we rejoice in His presence in our lives and we seek to follow where He leads us. Of all the many blessings He provides, we treasure what is most important: His law of love inscribed on our hearts.
So, we put off our old self to live our new life in Christ Jesus. We are His new creation and His precious gift to the world. A life of faith, hope and love is our greatest treasure and blessing. Live for and in Christ Jesus for He is our way, our truth and our life. He is our greatest treasure. Let us hold all these things in our hearts. Let us live all these things each day.
